Chiltern Rangers Day

6th December 2019
Chiltern Rangers Day
On 9th October, we went on a mini bus to a house with a large garden near High Wycombe.  The garden was separated into two areas - one was a woodland area and one was just a grassy field.
Three Chiltern Rangers met us there and we planted cowslips to attract the "Duke of Burgundy" butterfly, which looks a little bit like a Red Admiral (especially if you are not a butterfly expert!)  The man challenged us to beat a previous school's record by planting five cowslips in twelve minutes ... and Matthew managed to do this!  He planted five in ten minutes, so knocked two minutes off the record.
We planted them in groups of four flowers so that they looked natural and not too formal.
Before us, one school had actually planted a thousand of them, so hopefully the butterflies will arrive in the spring.
Nooh enjoyed the raking especially and Alishba loved the lady's delicious 'butterfly' cupcakes (how appropriate!)
