Davenies Maths Challenge
23rd September 2016
Congratulations to our Year 4 Mathematicians!
On Friday, 23rd September four children took part in the '2016 Davenies Year 4 Mathematics Challenge'.
It was quite a nerve-wracking experience as the Year 4 children in 27 teams from local preparatory and state primary schools piled into the gym at Davenies School in Beaconsfield.
Teams of 4 mathematicians from each school were split into smaller teams of two couples ('Nonagons' and 'Hexagons'). There were several different types of mathematical problems and puzzles to solve over 90 minutes, many of which were very challenging indeed - and all of them had to be solved under time pressure.
Hughenden got off to a slow start, scoring only 1 and 2 points respectively in the first round (at which point I was beginning to panic!) However, after that we were flying and concentrated hard on each challenge.
We were finally placed 1st in the Nonagons section and at the end of the challenge, the Hughenden team was announced as OVERALL CHAMPION, scoring a whopping 118 points! Juniper Hill and Thorpe House Schools came overall second (113 marks) and High March School took fourth place (112 marks).
Needless to say, I am very proud indeed of our young Mathematicians in Year 4 and hope we will go from strength to strength this year!
