The Rotary Shoebox Appeal

The Rotary Shoebox Appeal has been a helpful strategy to help others this Christmas and a lot of schools have been interested. Here at Hughenden Primary School, there is no exception to that and we are fully interested to help others in need.

The Shoebox Appeal is a charity to donate to, although it is not money to be donated. To donate to the Shoebox Appeal you will need to create and make a shoebox, you can use any old or new shoebox. You can put anything in the shoebox weather it be a range of your old toys or some new toothpaste. Here are some recommendations to age groups:

Toys for young children

Cars, trucks, balls, complete jigsaws, action figures, colouring books, pens, crayons, Lego blocks, yo-yo, bubble blowers, wooden and plastic toys, dominoes, plasticine & cutters, fluffy toys, writing pads, skipping rope, scarf, mittens/gloves, hat, games, cards, etc...

Household related items for elderly and families

Scarves, gloves, hats, wrapped soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, disposable razors, shampoo, soap flakes, pan scourers, antiseptic cream, bandages, face or body creams, cosmetics, pens, writing pad & envelopes, T lights, candles, sewing kit, scissors, etc...

For babies up to 12 months and New mothers

This is given to new mothers and can include baby wipes, baby shampoo, baby oil, talc powder, bonnet, bootees, and mitts, baby grow, knitted matinee coat, small soft toy or plastic rattle, etc…

These are just a few examples of items you can place in your shoebox. Hughenden Primary school are really excited/ interested in the idea of helping others this Christmas. We are also very happy that it will go to parents who cannot afford their children any Christmas presents this year. Hughenden Primary has donated many shoeboxes this year.

This Christmas, why not celebrate by donating a shoebox to The Rotary Shoebox Scheme to help someone less fortunate than yourself. Every shoebox helps somebody ranging from a newborn to an elderly. As the Rotary Shoebox Scheme charity would say 'Spread a little happiness'.
