What is a school Council?
A school council is a group of committed students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils in the school. They work hard to improve the school and ensure it is the best it can be.
What does it do?
The School Council meet every Monday with Mrs Brinworth to discuss any problems and suggest solutions on a wide range of topics. Pupils have the opportunity of putting suggestions in the 'Suggestions Box' in the front office. Some of the topics we discuss may include school lunches, improving resources in school, ways to encourage reading or ideas for fundraising events.
Members of the school council will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, meeting with teachers and governors, ordering equipment and planning new initiatives.
The school council also has responsibility for communicating their ideas with the whole school through assemblies, meeting with teachers and outside professionals such as our Governors and Dolce, our hot meals provider.
Our school council plays a vital role in improving the school and communicating all children's views to the teachers and governors.
How can you become a school councillor?
At the start of the year the children receive an assembly about School Council and what the role of a school councillor is. Elections for schools councillors then take place and the children vote for two councillors from every class. If this is a role you might be interested in start thinking about what qualities you could offer to council, ready for next year's election.
How can you spot a school councillor?
All our school councillors have been given special blue badges and would be happy to help you if you have any questions about what they do.
Our School Mascot - Hugh!
You'll find Hugh, our wise owl in the front office - our new school mascot chosen and named by our School Council wearing a scarf made up of all 4 house colours!
