Maths Week

1st November 2020

Maths Week

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, this November we are taking part in Maths Week England.

Here are the details of the competitions that we have entered, as the children will have opportunities to play in school but may wish to carry on with these at home.

Rock Out 2020 via play.ttrockstars.com. for children in Year 1 to 6

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours). Winning classes in the school and in the country as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but only from games played between 7.30am and 7.30pm on Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Saturday 14th

In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans. We suggest a limit of half an hour a day outside school hours – some will play more, some will play less.

Update! The results are in! MWE 2020 was a competitive one. A total of 3,887 schools, 31,039 classes, 433,924 pupils took part and answered a total of 441.93 million questions answered correctly.

In the National TTRS competition we scored 28,542 points and came 1483rd in the competition.  Our tops scorers all came from Year 4 and were as follows:
1st Matthew 8,351 points
2nd William 7,898 points
3rd Jacob 3,317 points

Well done to everyone who took part and contributed to the overall score for Hughenden.

M-Fluencers Math Quest via www.mangahigh.com. This competition is as an opportunity for children in Year 1 - 6 to have fun and improve their mathematics learning. It begins on November 9th at 7am and finishes November 14th at 6pm.  Students complete mathematics activities that are set by the teacher during Mathsweekengland and gain medals which equate to points and prizes.  If you need logins contact your child's class teacher.
